Day After Surgery

You will be required to wear a compression bandage for at least 24 hours following the otoplasty procedure, and lighter bandaging may be required after the first day of recovery. To minimize swelling, you should keep your head elevated while sleeping after the surgery. You’ll be able to go back to work within a few days of surgery, but heavy lifting is off limits.

Weeks After Surgery

You are encouraged to wear a headband for up to two weeks following otoplasty surgery. It’s recommended that you avoid putting pressure on the ears by not sleeping on your side in the weeks following surgery. Depending on the type of sutures, you may need to return to the office for removal.

Months After Surgery

You will see results of your otoplasty within weeks of the surgery once swelling starts to subside. Complete healing typically takes several months, with final results showing in six months to a year.

    Otoplasty FAQ

    What Is Otoplasty?

Cosmetic ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, is a procedure that corrects and enhances the ear’s appearance. The procedure improves the shape, proportion and position of the ear to have a profound impact on overall appearance. It’s used to correct misshapen and protruding ears, as well as birth defects and disfigurations caused by injury. Otoplasty by Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery can help you achieve more symmetrical and natural shaped ears that will greatly improve your facial appearance. Our practice is known for providing one of the best plastic surgery Beverly Hills has available with beautiful results.

    Why Choose Otoplasty?

Otoplasty is ideal for those who are unhappy with their protruding, deformed or overly large ears. You may choose this procedure if you feel self-conscious of disproportional and overly noticeable ears and you want to improve your overall appearance. Cosmetic ear surgery is for people suffering birth defects, deformed and misshapen ears, and for those who would simply like to gain self-confidence by correcting the appearance of their ears.

Who Are Good Candidates For Otoplasty?

Otoplasty candidates are typically over the age of five, free of life-threatening illness and looking for a positive change in their appearance. Candidates should also be in good physical health. People suffering ear defects from birth or injury, overly prominent or misshapen ears also choose to have cosmetic ear surgery. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Vishal Kapoor to discuss your medical history and to find out if you are a good candidate for otoplasty.

How To Prepare For An Otoplasty

Your doctor may inform you of medicinal adjustments you need to make prior to the procedure. This may include starting certain medications, adjusting or stopping current drugs or supplements. This includes avoiding aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDS) and vitamins that may increase bleeding. You are also advised to stop smoking at least six weeks before surgery to promote the healing process. Proper hydration is also encouraged before any cosmetic surgery procedure.

What To Expect During The Procedure

Otoplasty is performed with general or local anesthesia while the patient is sedated. Incisions are typically made on the back side of the ear. However, incisions may be made on front folds of the ear as well, which hides any possible scarring. Excess skin and cartilage may be removed during the procedure, which generally lasts two hours. External and internal sutures are carefully placed to promote a natural healing process

    What To Expect After?

After surgery, the ears will be dressed in bandaging to protect and support the procedure. You’ll need to sleep with your head elevated the first night after surgery and wear a headband over the ears for at least two weeks post-op. You may experience itching and discomfort, which pain medications may be prescribed to treat. It’s recommended to avoid putting pressure on the ears by not sleeping on your side during the healing process. It’s important to take care while dressing, and wearing loose-fitting or button tops is recommended to avoid irritating the sutures.
